ALL ARE WELCOME

Welcome to our website, the online face of Saint Joseph Catholic Church. Welcome everyone to our parish family. I hope you will find this website useful to answer questions you may have. I pray that it will encourage everyone to be more actively involved in parish activities. For through this venue of communication, we are presented with a new opportunity to better unite us in prayer, in service to God, and to each other. May it lead all of us to Christ, the center of our lives.

I hope you will consider becoming an active member of St. Joseph’s, worshiping God with us, learning more about our Catholic faith, and sharing the love of God with one another and with the larger community in Northwest Indiana. Please do not hesitate to call the rectory if you would like to learn more about how we can help you on your journey of faith.

Father Theodore J. Mens, senior priest

Parishioner testimonies

I graduated from St. Joseph School in 1948. The nuns made me what I am today. I’ve worked with this parish for many years as our family business B-K Funeral Home has had many services in this church. It is still one of the special churches in the area.
— Tom Burns from Highland
We have been members since 2015. Saint Joseph’s is our spiritual home and the parishioners are very friendly. We are a family of the faithful.
— Rosie Recio from Hammond
The beautiful church building where we celebrate Mass inspired me to study architecture in college.
— John Wea from Hammond
St. Joseph Church is definitely the anchor of my spiritual life. Our St. Joe family is like our extended family. My friends there have supported me through difficult times.
— Joan Crist from Hammond
I have been at this church my whole life. I’ve been married here and baptized all my children here. This church has fulfilled all my religious needs. I really feel the presence of God here. I hope to pass that on to my children.
— Saul Mendez from Whiting
What a welcoming community. This parish is a family of caring, giving people who show their love of God and humankind. I have experienced many blessings through the service of others and in the service of this community.
— Denise Ellis of Hammond

I was raised Catholic yet fell away from the Church. When my son died in 2002, I felt that God brought me back here to St. Joe’s. It’s the only place I have found peace. I enjoy coming to church and especially this community of friends. If people only realized what being here does for your soul.
— Nancy from Hammond
Every Sunday, Mass at St. Joseph Church sets the tone for my week. The familiar faces, beautiful church, and the Word give me happiness to start off the week!
— Angie Mendez from Whiting
Being part of this parish improved my life with fellowship. At St. Joseph, you feel welcomed, loved, spiritually enriched, and supported. The parishioners are wonderful!
— Brenda Kubas from Chicago, IL
Attending Mass at St. Joseph’s gave me back the faith I lacked. Since joining, I have found wonderful, caring people that I now consider my church family.
— Gail K. from Hammond
After graduating from Bishop Noll [high school], I left the Church and got involved in the counter culture of the day. Fourty years later, I had a life-threatening illness which required surgery. I had no insurance. But Catholic charities paid my bills. From that point, I began attending Mass at St. Joseph’s. I am grateful to St. Joseph church for returning my focus on where my life should go.
— Tom Biancard from Hammond
My family members at this church are more of a family to me than my own. It’s a very beautiful house to come to have peace and harmony.
